The list of contenders for the award includes Rafael Arutyunyan (USA), Romain Hagenauer (France), Mie Hamada (Japan), Zhao Hongbo (China), Stephane Lambiel (Switzerland), Patrice Lauzon (Canada), Sonoko Nakano (Japan) and Todd Sand (USA). Tutberidze was not included in the list of nominees.

The ISU Skating Awards will take place on February 5th.

Alexei Zheleznyakov: I think this is wrong. Eteri Georgievna was not included in the list of nominees due to a doping scandal. The award is international, and on their part, such a gesture is understandable. People in the Western world will not understand or accept if a coach involved in a doping scandal is nominated for the “Best Coach” award. Again, I think this is wrong. Nothing has been proven, and everything remains in limbo, and as a result, they do what they want. The West has been playing against us for a long time. You understand that politics has long been mixed with sports and religion, and all their messages are not surprising here. All this has been going on for several years— a one-sided game.

If you were presenting the “Best Coach” award, would you give it to Eteri Tutberidze?

Alexei Zheleznyakov: Yes, I would. If we take the real number of gold medals over the past year at international competitions into account, then, of course, the Tutberidze team won the largest number; this is undoubtedly true. I think that if a team takes all the gold medals, it is fair to give them the “Best Coach” award. But, unfortunately, justice has not smelled here for a long time.

Yes. First the very low quantity of TMZ. Second the timing, as if they want Valieva to reach Beijing first then smear Russia.
They have a very weak case. Russia should have that team gold medal anyway. It was inevitably Shcherbakova+Trusova against Karen Chen, good luck with that..LoL. Back then, even Valieva didn’t have to do FS, Russia would’ve still won it.

    Indeed a very weak case.

Funny thing is that Shcherbakova is in the nominee. Yea right, because she coached herself LoL.

And never will. It’s simply ridiculous! athlets are waiting to get their olimpic medals.
