Evgenia Medvedeva spoke about judging in pair competitions in the Beijing 2022 team event and the upcoming performance of the Russians.
Evgenia Medvedeva: If our guys skate clean, then other pairs have absolutely no chance. And these are not some our desires. It is a fact.
Because their free program is really very, very strong, and in the short program – yes, there was a very close rivalry yesterday. And I will not lie – when I saw yesterday how well the Chinese skated (Wenjing Sui and Cong Han), I had a thought that our pair might not be placed first, even if ours skated the short program clean.
Well, this may be my preconceived notion about the home Olympics. Although this opinion exists among the people. But judging is the same everywhere, there are no advantages in countries. So, perhaps, this was such a second through.
If we go for the team gold, we must go with trump cards, the strongest athletes. But choosing among our three beautiful girls is the most difficult task, so I probably won’t dare to give my personal opinion.
