Evgeni Plushenko: Yuzury’s free program is interesting, but he can make it much better

Evgeni Plushenko about Yuzuru Hanyu’s free program “Dedication Nijinsky”.

Evgeni: I met with Yuzu in the summer in Japan, where he came to me and asked: “Would you mind if I took your program, your music and skate “Nijinsky”?”. I replied that this idea is great! I talked to his managers and assistants and confirmed my words.

Yuzury’s free program is interesting, but he can make it much better. In my opinion, the program is still rough. I would add some arm movements and choreography of Nijinsky. That Nijinsky to whom the program is dedicated and the artistic image of which is shown on the ice.

Unfortunately, at the moment there is no this choreography of Nijinsky, his poses. Even his banal poses. After all, Vaslav Nijinsky was an absolutely extraordinary dancer. He was the first in the history of ballet, who moved from classics to avant-garde. He also had completely different positions – broken. To be honest, I would like Yuzury to add these nuances to his program.

I understand why we see his program in its current state. Yuzury has his own style, but he also has difficult jumps. But even with such a complexity Yuzury can improve his free program.

For any skater, quad loop and combination where axel goes as second jump are something beyond, but for Hanyu this is usual. I saw him doing 4-3,5-3,5 (quad toe loop – triple axel – triple axel). I would like Yuzu to jump 4-3-3 – quadruple salchow or toe loop – triple toe loop – triple loop.

Hanyu is the greatest athlete. It worth a lot to skate at such level for such a long time. As for the free program, I think, he will add choreography in the style of Nijinsky, the season has just begun.

   there are no Nijinsky movements in Yuzuru’s program because “Origin” doesn’t talk about Nijinsky,but there are your movements in Yuzuru’s “Origin” because “Origin” talks about you,Plushy (you were Yuzuru’s idol) and it talks about beginning of Yuzuru’s career,that’s why it calls “Origin”.

   “…there is no this choreography of Nijinsky…” because it’s not dedicated to Nijinsky. Yuzuru’s program named ‘Origin’ is about the love for figure skating in his early age.
