Yuma Kagiyama, who won the silver medal in men’s figure skating at the Milan-Cortina Olympics in February, attended a talk event in Tokyo on the 9th hosted by magnetic health product company Colantotte. Here’s a translation of his comments.

Last month, Kagiyama announced on his social media that he would be taking a break for the 2026–27 season. At the event, he chose “Life: Enjoy!” as his theme, explaining, “It’s not just about playing around, but about enjoying and taking on challenges in everything, including aspects of skating and life that I haven’t experienced before.”

Reflecting on last season, he said, “Each competition was a valuable experience for me, and it was a season where I learned the importance of not giving up. More than the results, I’m truly glad I was able to perform in a way that I genuinely wanted from the bottom of my heart.” Looking ahead, he expressed his determination to make the most of his time off: “I want to pursue performances that I find enjoyable and make this recharging period fulfilling.”

Kagiyama also celebrated his 23rd birthday on the May 5th and received congratulations from fans at the event. “In life, I feel like things are just beginning, but in figure skating, I’m already among the more experienced. I want to cherish each year. This year, I want to take on new challenges, discover different sides of myself, and have fun. I won’t be competing, but I think I’ll still be in the public eye in various ways, so I hope everyone will continue to support me warmly,” he said with renewed resolve.
