After finishing fifth at Worlds, Adam Siao Him Fa expressed disappointment in his free skate and emphasized the need for a break to recover, while praising Ilia Malinin’s resilience and achievement. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on L’Equipe.

“It was tough. It was tough after the first fall. Even before that, during the run-up, I was pretty nervous, which is normal, but I couldn’t manage it. It was quite similar to the Olympics, but it wasn’t the same kind of mental block. At the Olympics, I was very stressed about the result, about placement. Here, I was really focused on the performance, on the program itself. I felt more present. The fall hurt me quite a bit, but I wasn’t strong enough to get back up and give 300% to the rest of the program.

(On this new fall on the quad lutz, even though it was placed differently in the program) The strategy didn’t work at all. It was going really well in practice. What’s still difficult is putting it into practice in competition.

(On what’s next) I really want to take a break. I need it. I need to go on vacation, disconnect a bit, take some time to breathe and recharge. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a real vacation. It’s been a bit of a rush these past four years, between tours and injuries. I haven’t really taken time for myself. I think it will do me good, and it’s necessary.

(On Ilia Malinin’s performance) It’s truly admirable. I know Ilia well – he’s a fighter. I knew very well that after the Olympics, he wouldn’t collapse, that he would come back stronger. He really deserved his third title.”
