Belgian figure skater Nina Pinzarrone impressed with her nearly flawless short program at the Milan Olympics, overcoming months of injury challenges to enjoy her Olympic debut and deliver a performance she is proud of. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Sporza.

The Olympic debutante radiated relief and happiness when she spoke immediately after her skate: “I feel really relieved. I felt good during the program, I connected with it. There was pressure, but I was able to enjoy it.”

Enjoying the moment was Pinzarrone’s priority for this memorable debut. “I’ve worked my entire career for this. Since I started skating, I dreamed of coming here. To be here after all the injuries and the difficult preparation – that is an accomplishment in itself.”

Pinzarrone reflected on the rarity of this experience and how meaningful it is to her: “The Olympics are only held once every four years. You never know how many chances you’ll get to be part of something like this.”

The lead-up to the Games wasn’t easy. A painful injury derailed her preparation earlier in the season. “I wasn’t able to skate for four months because I was in too much pain. I’m so relieved and happy that I’ve put that behind me and can now train pain-free and in a good way.”

“I just dream of delivering a performance like today,” Pinzarrone said about the upcoming free program. “I want a skate that makes me really happy afterward. The placement doesn’t matter to me anymore. I just want to do my best.”
