Laurence Fournier-Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron delivered a flawless free dance to win European gold, reflecting on technical details, Olympic preparation, and the camaraderie with their competitors. Here’s a translation of their comments posted on Skate Info Glace.
On the rhythm dance
“We made a lot of changes, including a brand new lift, and it worked quite well. It’s a very good score, especially considering the exclamation mark on the choreo step. We remain very confident. We know what we need to work on, and that’s encouraging for the future. It’s also our responsibility, in the coming weeks, to make sure these kinds of details don’t happen again. We’re eager to understand exactly the reason for this exclamation mark. These are always tiny details, often invisible to the public, but very technical, that need to be refined. We still have two weeks of training before the Olympic Games. It could be something as minute as staying in contact for 5.30 seconds instead of exactly 5 seconds, or being stationary for 5.20 seconds instead of 5.
Laurence Fournier-Beaudry: I missed the European Championships. I last competed in them with my former partner, when we skated for Denmark, back in 2018. In these new adventures, there is a lot of joy, a lot of friendship, and immense gratitude for the chance to skate at championships like these.”
On the Olympic Games:
“We will participate in the team event, which will be a first for both of us. Managing our energy will be crucial, especially since the team event is very close to the individual event.”
On Madison Chock and and Evan Bates:
“We’ve been friends for a very long time. We couldn’t have dreamed of better training partners and better competitors. Of course, we’re competing against each other, but there is a lot of respect and affection. We support them, and these will be wonderful memories to look back on together when we’re old! They have incredible qualities. They’ve supported us from the beginning, when we announced our return. They are great athletes, with impressive resilience, great artistic quality, and remarkable lifts.”
