Georgian pair skaters Anastasia Metelkina and Luka Berulava celebrated their European Championship victory in Sheffield, with Metelkina declaring her goal of winning gold at the 2026 Milan Olympics. Here’s a translation of their comments.
“We are preparing as usual. The Olympic Games are very important to us. I won’t settle for any medal except gold.
I’m going for the gold medal. And I hope that, just like at this European Championships, Luka and I will win the gold medal at the Olympics,” Metelkina said in Russian in a post-skate interview at the 2026 European Championships.
“In general, it was fine. But I fell on the toe loop,” Metelkina added.
“It’s nothing serious, everything was good. We enjoyed this skate.
Yes, maybe there was a mistake, but I want to thank Nastya for not giving up. On the contrary, we kept building and building, and today I didn’t even feel especially tired after the free program. I’m incredibly happy that we are European champions.
We already have silver and bronze from the European Championships, and now gold. We are happy,” said Berulava.
