Yuna Aoki, who finished fifth in the women’s event at Nationals, updated her Instagram on New Year’s Eve. She revealed that she had to get 14 stitches in her forehead due to an injury in March 2025 and shared her determination for 2026. Here’s a translation of her comments.

After initially announcing her retirement following the 2024 Nationals, Aoki decided to continue her career in March 2025. “On the day I decided to keep skating in March, I fell on a triple Axel and had to get 14 stitches in my forehead. In April, I took a month off due to mysterious health issues, so the start was a bit shaky, but after that, I was able to spend my time in good spirits,” she wrote.

She added, “2026 is my zodiac year – I hope it will be a healthy and enjoyable year,” expressing her gentle determination and sharing various photos and videos.

At 23, Aoki did not make the Milano-Cortina Olympic team, but she has been selected to represent Japan at the Four Continents Championships in Beijing, China, this month.
