Adam Siao Him Fa, two-time European champion, will not compete at the 2024 European Championships in Sheffield to focus on recovery and preparation for the 2026 Olympics. Here’s a translation of an article on L’Equipe.

After the announcement of the Olympic team for the Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Games (February 6–22, 2026), one detail in the selection for the European Championships in Sheffield (January 14–18) may have surprised some: it is not Adam Siao Him Fa who will accompany Kevin Aymoz, but François Pitot. Adam has struggled since the start of the season, despite two second-place finishes at the Grand Prix events in France and Finland and qualifying for the Final in Nagoya (5th), but with too many falls.

“He needs to regain physical freshness and consistency in training, and refocus on the Olympic goal,” explained Djamel Cheikh, the National Technical Director for ice sports. “He is also paying for injuries from last season and was racing against time. He needs a long enough period to prepare for the most important event. I had the idea to skip this event, and so did Cedric (Tour, his coach). Adam completely agreed.”

This decision is clearly not a sanction. “It’s a matter of fine-tuning and stabilization,” continued Djamel Cheikh. “The shared assessment with the coaches is that adding another event like the Europeans for Adam would be destabilizing and could be bad for the Olympics. At the French Championships (where he finished second behind Aymoz), even though the result wasn’t good on paper and was even a poor performance (244.43 points), we saw signs of progress, and the work done in mental preparation and psychology is starting to pay off.”
