Russian figure skater Adeliia Petrosian spoke about the new elements in her programs. On December 19, during the short program at the 2026 Russian Nationals in St. Petersburg, she landed a triple axel, earning a score of 86.52 points from the judges. Here’s a translation.
“Rarely did I land the triple axel cleanly two weeks ago. I managed to include it in the program just a week ago. I trained hard and was nervous even then. Not to mention how I felt here. It works out a lot in practice. But I hope to keep improving,” Petrosian told Championat correspondent Anastasia Ratskevich.
“My axel is strange in itself. It even looks unusual. When I catch it, it’s actually pretty easy for me to hold. The important thing was to get the landing, and then start building momentum, jumping more and more. I feel the axel is becoming a more or less stable element for me.
After the triple axel, I just wanted to jump for joy. But I knew I couldn’t relax. I kept reminding myself that the program was far from over,” Petrosian concluded.
“I was very anxious, nervous, and scared. I felt all the emotions. The coaches were calm, but they have a lot of experience. Their calmness was passed on to me and helped me.
As soon as I managed the axel, I put it into the program. It was hard to pull myself together, even though I went straight into the element. It took a long time to figure out the landing. It cost me a lot of nerves,” Petrosian continued.
“The audience stood up – I was in shock, just thinking ‘hurray’ in my head. Thank you to the spectators. After landing the triple axel, my ears were ringing. I prayed I wouldn’t mess up anything else in the program. I felt proud that I could make the audience happy,” she said.
“I remember what my scores were when I was already performing with the triple axel. I’m glad to see such scores again this season. I’ll keep working on it and improving,” Petrosian said on Channel One.
“There was no strategy of gradually building up form. I had almost three months of the off-season. I was injured. The first month was just getting back in, and then I basically sat out for two months. So I’m gradually getting back into shape, but this isn’t my peak yet. I hope to peak in February, at the Olympics,” she added.
