Kaori Sakamoto, aiming for her fifth consecutive title and Olympic selection at her final Japanese Nationals, expressed a mix of excitement and nerves as she prepares to deliver a performance of gratitude. Here’s a translation of her comments.

Official practice for the Japanese National Championships, which also serve as the final selection event for the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, was held at the venue on the 18th. Kaori Sakamoto (25), aiming for her fifth consecutive title, said, “I’m about 5% excited, 45% anxious, and 50% nervous.”

“This is probably my last domestic competition. I just want to give everything I have so people can watch every single second without regret.” She hopes to deliver a performance of gratitude to all those who have supported her.

At the Grand Prix Final, she made a mistake on her jump in the short program and started in fifth place. Since then, she has focused on practicing recovery after mistakes, improving her adaptability. Still, she laughed heartily, saying, “Things often didn’t go smoothly, so the best is to have a clean skate.” By finishing as one of the top two Japanese skaters at the GP Final, she has an advantage for Olympic selection, but her goal is to win and secure an immediate spot. “I want to tighten my focus even more and deliver my best performance,” she said with determination.
