Finnish ice dancer Yuka Orihara will not compete at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics due to a delay in her nationality change, but remains positive about future competitions. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Nikkansports.
On December 6, Finnish ice dance representative Yuka Orihara revealed to Kyodo News that she will not participate in next February’s Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics because her nationality change was not completed in time. Finland has secured two Olympic spots, and Orihara, who placed 14th at last season’s World Championships, would have been a strong candidate for the team if she had obtained citizenship.
Orihara, a 25-year-old Tokyo native, has been based in Helsinki and skating with Juho Pirinen, who is five years her senior, for seven seasons. “I feel a bit relieved now that this chapter is closed. There are other competitions, so I want to keep working hard without worrying,” she commented positively.
