“She should have been taught proper technique so that those jumps would last. Instead, it feels more like spinning around with the intention to throw dust in everyone’s eyes.” Elena Kostyleva’s mother criticized Adeliia Petrosian’s quad technique

In her Telegram Channel, Irina Kostyleva, the mother of figure skater Elena Kostyleva, recently voiced her opinion on the quad jumps performed by Adeliia Petrosian. Expressing doubts about the execution and technique, she shared her observations from the stands regarding Petrosian’s flip jump. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“Excuse me, but did Adeliia actually attempt a lutz or a flip? Watching from the stands, I clearly saw about 180 degrees of rotation on the ice before the flip takeoff. She over-rotated the jump, turning the flip into a cheated jump. It seemed like she completed three rotations along with some extra in the air,” Irina wrote on her Telegram channel.
“If Adeliia could execute a flip with proper, non-cheating technique – especially given her fantastic physique – she would still be able to perform it at 18 years old. But her technique seemed focused on appearances, just to make the jump. How many real rotations did she have in the air? From the stands, it didn’t look like more than three.”
Irina delivered a stern judgment, drawing attention to the contrast in flip technique between Petrosian and some leading male figure skaters. “Just look at the flips performed by Dikyidzhi, Gumennik, and others. Did what Adeliia performed look anything like theirs? That’s the reason she isn’t doing it anymore.”
She concluded with harsh advice: “She should have been taught jumps with proper technique so that those jumps would last. Instead, it feels more like spinning around with the intention to throw dust in everyone’s eyes, distracting them from the reality of the jump.”
