Newly-formed ice dance pair Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron captivated the crowd with their free dance to the music from The Whale at the Masters competition, signaling their intention to disrupt the world stage as they begin their journey toward the 2026 Olympics. Here’s a translation of their comments posted on L’Equipe.

“This is the first step of a long journey toward the Olympics,” summarized the reigning Olympic champion, Guillaume Ciczeron.

They have only been skating together for nine months, yet their performance radiates raw emotion. “This is a program that deeply moves us; we’ve poured a lot of our soul into it,” confessed Laurence Fournier Beaudry, who is still awaiting naturalization to be eligible for the Milan Games (February 6–22, 2026). “There’s a piece of us in this story.”

Cizeron, whom Fournier Beaudry describes as her “cosmic brother,” acknowledged the daunting challenge they face: “It’s a leap into the unknown. We don’t know what’s ahead, but we’re embracing it fully. It takes courage and strength to put yourself out there and share your vulnerability.”

The pair draws upon their deep connection, offering their emotions to one another while opening their “bubble” to the audience. “There’s so much generosity and emotional nakedness between us,” she said. “It’s an intimate moment, but we allow the audience to observe it, even if only from the outside.”
