In an interview with Figure Skating Rose News, Italian figure skater Daniel Grassl reflected on his career, his goals for the upcoming Olympic season, and the lessons he has learned through figure skating. Below are some highlights from the interview.

“Q: With the Olympic season on the horizon, what goals – both competitive and personal – have you set for yourself?”

Daniel Grassl: My goal is always to go on the ice, have fun, and give my best. I will work hard to reach my goals. I set them step by step, but my main goal is always to enjoy what I’m doing.”

“Q: What’s been the most unforgettable moment or proudest achievement in your skating career so far?

Daniel Grassl: “I think my Olympic season in 2022, especially the Olympics, was a proud moment. I was really proud of how I fought through the whole season, and I gave my best performance at the Olympics.”

“Q: What’s been one of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your skating journey, and how did you work through it?

Daniel Grassl: It was the time I wasn’t in Italy, when I was gaining experiences abroad. It was very difficult, but it taught me a lot – both in skating and in life.”

“Q: Figure skating demands so much physically and mentally. How do you stay grounded through the highs and lows?

Daniel Grassl: Figure skating is very tough mentally. I always try to stay positive and not put too much pressure on myself. When I treat competitions like practice, that’s when I perform my best.”

“Q: What has figure skating taught you about yourself – both on and off the ice?”

Daniel Grassl: It teaches me every day not to be too hard on myself, to be kind to myself, and to never stop fighting.”

“Q: When fans look back on your career one day, how would you like to be remembered – as an athlete, artist, or person?

Daniel Grassl: “As a fighter and as an athlete, for the passion he had for his sport.”

“Q: If you could skate to any piece of music with no rules or judging criteria – just for the joy of performance – what would it be?

Daniel Grassl: I think it would be a TikTok song, ‘Love Me Not.’ I love that song, ahaha.”
