Anastasia Skoptsova, who competed in ice dance with Kirill Aleshin, opens up about eating disorders in figure skating. She shared shocking details about her battle with bulimia and extreme measures to lose weight, revealing she took up to 80 pills at a time to lose weight. Here’s a translation of her comment.

Anastasia Skoptsova: I was diagnosed with bulimia. I used to buy very cheap diuretics and take up to 80 pills at a time. They’re laxatives.

Q: How is it even possible to take so many at once?

Anastasia Skoptsova: What do you mean ‘possible’? You have a weigh-in tomorrow, so you take them. Yes, 80 pills. I’ll tell you even more… These were cheap pills. I bought them because they produced an effect that more expensive medications didn’t. They completely clean you out. They’re so harmful that you start with two pills; the next time, two pills don’t work at all, so you have to take four. And eventually, you end up taking 80. I know of girls who took even more – these are horrifying numbers.

You’re on the bus after training, knowing you have a weigh-in tomorrow, knowing you have to do something to lose weight. Even if I only lost, say, 500 grams…

Q: Was that enough?

Anastasia Skoptsova: It mattered that I stepped on the scale and saw a specific number. It mattered to everyone back then. And the point isn’t whether this is good or bad — it’s about when your diet no longer works. It’s not about lacking willpower or thinking, ‘I want to eat a lot without gaining weight. What should I do — stick two fingers in my throat or take diuretics?’ It’s the point where nothing helps anymore, and you don’t even know what to do. You just sit there staring at the wall, completely lost.

I’ll say something strange: I’m very religious. People go to church to ask for something important, but you go there, light a candle, and pray to lose weight. And afterwards, you feel ashamed. Because others ask for meaningful things, and you’re there praying to shed a couple of kilograms. It’s like your mind is completely warped already.”

Skoptsova shared this deeply personal experience in the show “Katok”
