The head of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, Anton Sikharulidze, commented on the scandal surrounding coach Sergei Rozanov. Previously, Lyudmila Alferova, the mother of 16-year-old figure skater Veronika Zhilina, stated that Rozanov had harassed her daughter during training camps at the “Angels of Plushenko” academy. At the time, Veronika was 11 years old. Here’s a translation of Sikharulidze’s comment.
“I think there’s really nothing for us to discuss, first of all. I heard the unclear position of the mother and just as unclear a position from the girl. Moreover, we’re talking about incidents that allegedly happened four or five years ago.
I have one major question: where were the parents, the coaches, and the school four or five years ago? What exactly is the problem, and why are we only talking about this situation with this girl now?
I don’t see anything that can really be examined. And if such incidents do occur, the proper course of action is to report them to the relevant authorities so they can conduct an investigation.
At this point, after so many years, discussing this issue as a figure skating federation is simply inappropriate. Frankly, I’m surprised this issue has come up at all – it seems rather strange to me,” said the head of the Russian Figure Skating Federation.
