Kazuki Tomono (26), spoke to the media on the 12th at his training base in Osaka. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on Nikkansports.
Kazuki revealed his intention to revisit last season’s free skate program, performed to the piano piece “Halston,” for the upcoming season. “I want to deepen its content and make it a program that’s more capable of winning,” said Tomono, who is aiming to qualify for his first Olympic Games.
One determining factor in his decision was the encouragement he received from former world champion Daisuke Takahashi, who praised the program. Tomono described the program as “natural and comfortable for me, and it really brings out my individuality.” He plans to refine the choreography with Misha Ge starting this month, and he will debut a new short program for the upcoming season.
During practice, Tomono landed a quadruple loop jump. While he does not plan to include the jump in his program layout, he commented, “Having the loop makes the toe loop and salchow feel less difficult.” He intends to further improve the precision of his jumps. The 26-year-old skater, who has competed in the World Championships three times, expressed his determination for the next season: “I want to discard any sense of dependency and move forward with the momentum to leave others behind.”
