Evgenia Medvedeva considers the quadruple axel to be more risky than a backflip. The two-time World Champion in figure skating shared her thoughts while responding to questions on her Telegram channel. Here’s a translation of her comments.

Q: Is it possible to invent a new element in single skating, or has everything already been done?

Evgenia Medvedeva: Over the years, people have been trying to invent something new, but it seems like not everyone succeeds. Yes, certain choreographic elements are being created that become sensations.

For example, they recently allowed the backflip, which I am incredibly pleased about. Yes, there is a risk for the athlete, but I think that elements like the quadruple axel are riskier to perform than a backflip.

So, people are trying to invent new elements — at least they are attempting to. But so far, without success.

Q: Do you plan to continue dancing? (previously, Medvedeva became a participant in ‘Star Dances’ on TNT channel – ed.)

Evgenia Medvedeva: I took part in a very cool TV dance show. The rest of the information is still a secret; wait for this wonderful project to appear on big TV screens. And yes, I plan to continue dancing as much as my busy schedule allows. It’s a beautiful activity, and I have no intentions of giving it up.

I absolutely love everything related to dance and choreography. I am a creative person after all. And I think that the project I participated in will greatly help in my professional career and will continue to develop me as a skater. And that’s awesome.”
