In the interview with CTC Kids, Alina Zagitova talked about attempting quadruple jumps, shared where she keeps her medals, and revealed who she considers the best figure skater. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“Q: Have you ever tried quads?
Alina Zagitova: I have tried them. It was during the Olympic season. And my coaches told me: let’s better focus on perfecting your content, because it was already quite overpacked.
They mentioned that there could be injuries, and we don’t need that right now.”
Alina Zagitova mentioned that she keeps her medals and costumes at her grandmother’s place.
“Q: Tell us, how many medals do you have?
Alina Zagitova: Actually, I haven’t counted my medals. I think that counting them might influence their future number. So, I haven’t counted them. But there are a lot.
Q: Where do you keep all your medals?
Alina Zagitova: At my grandmother’s. I believe that it’s the safest place; she won’t let anyone pass by.
Q: And how many costumes have you had?
Alina Zagitova: I haven’t counted them either. I think, maybe around 50 throughout my career, maybe even more.
Q: Do you have a favorite outfit?
Alina Zagitova: Pajamas, haha.
Q: Where are your costumes now?
Alina Zagitova: They are also at my grandmother’s. As we’ve already figured out, that’s my kind of safe.
Q: Any plans to sell your costumes online?
Alina Zagitova: Listen, I think they are very valuable to me. So, I couldn’t sell them. Each costume is for one season, sometimes they change if the coaches see they don’t fit the program. Anyway, I think I will not sell them.”
She also discussed how she managed to balance sports and school.
“Q: How did you manage to combine sports and school?
Alina Zagitova: It was very difficult. But I tried not to miss anything. If you look at my schedule, I would wake up at 6 a.m. I’d first go to practice, train until 8. From 8 to 1 or 2 o’clock, I had school. Then I would go back to training, and I had additional sessions as well. And until midnight, I had a tutor.
Q: Did you even know the word “sleep”?
Alina Zagitova: Children recover faster. After all, I can now say, from the height of my age, I am 22 years old. You recover faster in childhood than now. So you might not even… Although sleep is important. It’s the most important thing in our lives. And so is food.
I slept at night, just like everyone else. My tutor came over, and we studied until 12, then I quickly brushed my teeth, washed up, changed, and immediately went to sleep. And I quickly fell asleep.”
Alina Zagitova answered the question about who she considers the best figure skater.
“Q: Who is the best figure skater in the world for you?
Alina Zagitova: There are many, many of them.

Alina Zagitova: Mao Asada.
Q: And who else?
Alina Zagitova: Honestly, I can’t remember the name of the skater from Korea. She was the first in the world to win all titles in figure skating. I am the second, and she is the first.”

Very true. Mao is magic and I can replay her programs in my head from watching them again amd again. Felt so many highs and lows alongside her. Yuna won a lot but she felt closed off to me all those years.
Agree, Mao is just so special. But girl, you don’t remember Yuna lol obviously she had no time to pay attention to the world or learn good technique watching them but still lol she is lucky she is pretty
