Sota Yamamoto commented on his attitude for the upcoming season. Here’s a translation of his comments.
At the Japanese team press conference held on the 30th in Tokyo for the opening of the 2024-25 figure skating season, Sota Yamamoto (24) presented “Sophistication” as his theme for this season.
“I want to evolve not just performing, landing spins and jumps, but refining them into more sophisticated techniques,” he said.
“Rather than being satisfied with the current state, I always want to grow. I’m currently practicing the quadruple flip, but it’s still not consistent. I sometimes think that a layout including the quadruple salchow might be better, but I want to continue working towards mastering it,” he expressed his goals for the season.
Speaking of his main competitiors for this season, Sota mentioned Japanese skaters and Junhwan Cha. One reason Yamamoto mentioned Cha is that they will face each other several times this season.”Since our ages are close and we have been competing together in international competitions since our novice days, he is a good friend and a competitor I would mention aside from Japanese skaters,” Yamamoto explained.
Sota will be competing in the second event of the Grand Prix series, Skate Canada (October 25-27), and the fifth event in Finland (November 15-17).
