“Deanna Stellato-Dudek: When I drew the first starting number, I was terribly upset. All skaters know how unpleasant it is to open a competition. But I quickly pulled myself together; we must be ready to skate under any conditions. Although, of course, I would like to know what our scores would have been if we had skated at the very end.
Maxime Deschamps: But we are still pleased with the skate, this is our first start since the World Championships, and it was a historic, incredible event for us.
Deanna Stellato-Dudek: Honestly, I’m still not used to being recognized; I always think something is wrong with my face or clothes – otherwise, why would people look at me? Of course, it’s great to become a World Champion, it’s forever, but now it’s a new season and we start from scratch.
Maxime Deschamps: Of course, it’s a bit pressuring: everyone looks at you and expects great performances, but the season has just started. We are not thinking about defending the World Champion title, it’s with us forever. But we wouldn’t mind winning it again, ha-ha.
Deanna Stellato-Dudek: I chose the music from the movie ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ myself. There are two reasons: first, the World Championships will be in the USA, and Beyonce is a true American icon. And secondly, let’s be honest, the talk about my age doesn’t stop, so I decided to turn it into an advantage. Maxim and I are at an age where we can allow ourselves to perform a sensual program. In my life, there has been great love and heartbreak, so I have something to say on the ice. So we have a unique situation: we can tell a story on the ice that would not look as convincing if performed by a much younger pair.”
