Alina Zagitova spoke about the moment of devastation after the 2018 Olympics. Here’s a translation of her comment posted on MatchTV.

In 2018, Zagitova won the European Championships and the Olympic Games, but then took fifth place in the World Championships in Milan.

“I was devastated. Only two – three weeks had passed after the Olympics, and then came the World Championships in Milan, it was such a short period, when so much had happened!

I had a fever of 39.5. It’s a normal situation after a strain. The fear that I would lose, huge pressure, fear for the reputation of our country. And I lost.

But a year later I won at the World Championships. I adjusted my work strategy and corrected my mistakes. So, having a goal and motivation is crucial. The main thing is to understand what you are striving for,” said Alina Zagitova.

She also shared the moments for which she loved sports the most. “I liked it when I won. You stand on the podium, they put a medal on you, the whole audience is watching, you sing the anthem of your country, you are applauded. These are the moments for which I loved sports the most,” Zagitova noted.
