Here’s a translations of Jorik Hendrickx’s comments made in an interview with Sporza.

Because the World Figure Skating Championships are held on an ice rink of an NHL team, the skaters need some time to adjust to the dimensions: ice hockey rinks in North America are narrower than the ice rinks in Europe. However, Jorik Hendrickx, brother and coach of Loena Hendrickx’s, is not worried about this fact. “During Skate America, the dimensions were the same as they are here (in Montreal – ed.) So, Loena knows what to expect. She’s used to this,” he told in an interview with Sporza. “You have the American and European dimensions, and we’re used to that. As athletes, we must adapt. We have that experience. It won’t have a big impact.”

What will have an impact, though, is the ice itself. “That is having a bigger impact right now than the dimensions of the rink,” Jorik Hendrickx said. “You always need to get used to the quality of the ice. That also impacts the jumps. The feeling of the ice is always different everywhere.”

“It’s not necessary to adjust the whole choreography. You do need to take into account how you cover the ice. We prepare for this at home as well, by making the ice rink more narrow during training. The timing is really important for some jumps.”

Regrading the upcoming World Championships he also added, “The European Championships was our real main goal this year. It has been a long season. I hope that her body still has some energy left to deliver a great performance here. The priority is that she can leave the ice feeling satisfied. And then we will see.”
