Here’s a translation of Junhwan Cha’s comments about Korean Nationals posted in an interview on mfocus.

Winning the Korean Nationl Championships, Junhwan shared his impressions of this competition saying, “Since I was injured, I went with a stable content. Nevertheless, I am satisfied because I still did well in both the short and free programs until the end.”

As for the winning Nationals 8 times in a row, he mentioned, “First of all, rather than feeling much different, I think I have continued to work hard and prepared all the time. I think I personally have some regrets because of the injury which affected my performances. So, although there’s not much time remain, I will try to recover as much as possible and show a good performance in the later competitions.”

Speaking about motivation, Junhwan said, “I’ve been a senior skater for a long time both internationally and domestically. I often feel that I lack something, so I always have a strong desire to improve and challenge myself. Therefore, I often search for motivation when creating new programs.” He also mentioned that his teammates also give him motivation, “Even though there is a record of eight consecutive victories, our athletes always practice hard together. I also receive a lot of energy during competitions and do my best at competitions. I think those things give me a lot of motivation.”

Touching upon the topic of his injury and recovery Junhwan Cha said, “Since it hasn’t been such a long time since the first qualifying competition, I focused more on recovery. Therefore, I was able to gradually resume training more normally. However, it takes a lot of time to recover to compete with the content I want, so for the remaining time, I want to use it as efficiently and effectively as possible to showcase my best this season. There is still some pain, but compared to the first selection competition, it seems like I can undergo training to some extent. So, I am putting a lot of effort into recovering my skills during the remaining time.”

Regarding his plans for the rest of the season, Junhwan mentioned, “The top priority is to recover my physical condition as much as possible. After that, the goal is to recover the content I have continuously challenged. However, considering that events like the World Championships are crucially connected to the next seasons, I believe I will focus on finding the optimal content that allows me to perform my program clean. Nevertheless, until then, I want to recover and present a good performance.”
