In the comments for Okko Sport, Alexandra Trusova shared how she got injured during the Olympic season. Here’s a translation.
“Alexandra Trusova: In the Olympic season, by summer, already in July, I was ready to perform – I landed five quadruples in training. Everyone applauded, and I was so pleased.
And the next day, Alexander Ilyich (Kogan) comes to training and you need to show the same. Naturally, I don’t show it because two free skates with five quadruples in a row…
In general, I didn’t skate cleanly and several times tried to put together everything I had to show how well-prepared I was. I cleanly landed the first half and, feeling satisfied, thought: what’s left, just put together two lutzes.
The first time I just fell, the second time I took off with all my might, but still didn’t rotate enough, slipped off my heel on the landing, and my leg stopped moving. Completely.
I said, “I won’t leave, I’ll still jump.” Everyone gave me such a look. I went to the doctor and said: do whatever you want, but tomorrow I have to jump five quads.
Naturally, nothing helped. But three days later, I went onto the ice with a leg that hardly moved and jumped a toe loop. With my left leg. It didn’t lead to anything good – I still tape my leg.
Then I had an MRI – just a sprain. So, three days later, I went out, prepared for the test skates with five quadruples. Well, then three competitions in a row – that’s it.
One day, I went to practice and couldn’t stand on my right leg. I took several painkillers, had an injection – nothing helped,” Trusova said in an episode of “Skating Show” on Okko.
“I jumped so many times… To learn the axel and restore, I jumped 50 times per practice after two free skates with five quadruples for a month. Every time.
It was my decision; no one ever forced me. Apparently, I have very good genetics. I often get sick, but injuries… I was lucky,” added the figure skater.

Alexandria Trusova is the QUEEN of competitive ice skating.I cannot think of another individual, make or female that has shown more determination or who has worked as hard as she did. Alexandria raised the bar for her peers and when the world had insisted since the first quad had been landed in competition that woman were not built therefore not capable of executing them. Well guess what? Alexandria did, and not only did she prove the world wrong, she executed five of them almost flawlessly during her test program months before the Olympic games. Anna deserved her medal, I am not going to take that from her however, Alexandria is an absolute legend and will go down in history as the “Quad Queen”. Bravo Alexandria Trusova!
