Here’s a translation of Evgenia Medvedeva’s comments given in an interview about her participation in Carmen ice show.
“Evgenia Medvedeva: I had hoped to skate in sports until the age of 30, like Carolina Kostner. It didn’t work out. Everything is purely due to or because of health reasons.
Let’s see how my health behaves. You can skate in shows for a very long time. They don’t require heavy physical loads from me, like at world championships. So, for now, I’m here and enjoying the performances. As for the future, I can’t say if I’ll get some injury or not. But I’m doing everything to prevent it from happening.
The role of Carmen has become one of the most significant in her career. The 23-year-old skater dreamt of this character for several years.
“Evgenia Medvedeva: I dreamed that it would be my Olympic program. In the end, everything turned out completely differently. But now I have truly grown into it. I have a full range of emotions from ‘childishness,’ naivety, and coquetry to internal drama and the realization that life can be very tough. Back then, I lived only for sports and didn’t experience such emotions. Now, I’m almost 24 years old, I understand what it means to be a woman, to weave intrigues, and not give people peace.
The difficulty lies in the number of my exits and the information that needs to be memorized. Today, I deliberately came to the venue earlier than everyone else to go through all the complex moments once again. We had about six night rehearsals because during the day, everyone has families, children, and other matters. Rehearsals started at 11:00 PM and lasted until the early morning.”
