Earlier the Georgian Figure Skating Federation announced that 28-year-old Kvitelashvili had retired from the sport.
Morisi Kvitelashvili: Dear friends, colleagues, and devoted fans,
The time has come, as it does for every professional athlete, to take a pause my competitive activities. This pause is necessary to give my body a break from the daily loads that, if continued, could lead to undesirable consequences.
Honestly, after careful consideration of the pros and cons, I have come to the realization that this is the right moment to make this decision. I assure you, these words come not from an exhausted athlete, squeezed like a lemon, but from someone who still has plenty of fire within, as there is much more to accomplish ahead.
I am grateful to fate for surrounding me with such wonderful people throughout my entire sporting career. Thanks to them, I have had the privilege of participating in two Olympics, six World and European Championships, and numerous international competitions, visiting dozens of countries in different corners of the planet.
I want to express my gratitude to my coaches, Eteri Georgievna Tutberidze, Sergei Viktorovich Dudakov, and Daniil Markovich Gleyhengauz, for our long-standing collaboration. I am also grateful to the Russian school of figure skating, where the foundation of my athletic career was laid, and where I learned everything that I can do and showcase over the course of twenty-five years.
Special thanks to the President of the Georgian Figure Skating Federation, Mrs. Mariam Giorgobiani, for her tremendous work, which led to the historic medals won at the most prestigious competitions. I would also like to thank the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports of Georgia for their support of our team and each individual athlete.
I cannot overlook the contribution of our respected journalists, who diligently and attentively covered the nuances of our sporting activities for the large audience of figure skating enthusiasts.
I want to dedicate a special line of gratitude to my loyal fans and followers, whose support I felt at every competition, not only from the stands but also through touching comments on social media.
Thank you all, we will meet again!
