Kana Muramoto and Daisuke Takahashi who finished in 11th place at the World Champhionships and tied for the highest rank among the Japanese ince dancers, announced their retirement from competition on May 1st through the team’s official Instagram account.

In a video posted on Instagram, Takahashi said, “There is something I would like to announce to everyone. There have been a lot of questions from various people, but we have been looking for the right timing to make the announcement. We thought it would be a good time to announce it now, and we wanted to share it first through this team account with everyone.” He went on to say, “We have decided to retire from competitive skating after this season.” Muramoto also said, “We decided it together as a team.” A press conference will be held on May 2nd, and an Instagram Live event for fans is scheduled for 8 pm on the same day.

After retiring from singles, Takahashi formed a partnership with Muramoto in 2020 and switched to ice dance. They started a new challenge as “KanaDai.” In their third season together, the 2022-2023 season, they won their first title at the Japanese Nationals in 2022 and tied for the highest rank among Japanese ice dances in 11th place at the World Championships in March. They also achieved their personal best in the free dance “The Phantom of the Opera” at the April World Team Trophy, ending the season on a high note.

After the last competition of the season, the World Team Trophy, Takahashi said he would think about his future plans during ice shows and events. The day after the competitions, he shared an episode where a judge praised them and said, “Finally, you became ice dancer. Will you continue?” He was happy to hear that the judge saw him as ice dancer rather than as singles skater Daisuke Takahashi, and he felt that their efforts were recognized and evaluated.
