Evgenia Medvedeva: The motives for raising the age minimum are usually completely different. This is either a concern for the health of athletes, because there have been too manu stories when young girls came, show their maximum, and then once – and the girl is injured and does not go anywhere else, because the injury is serious. Or it is a desire to separate junior figure skating with seniors.

I am a person who won my first Grand Prix at the age of 15, the Grand Prix Final at the age of 15, then I was 16: the European Championships, Russian Nationals, World Championships … I started my senior career quite in my youth. Therefore, I am silent about the age minimum. Who if not me should talk about youth figure skating.

But times change, rules change too. Some agree with the decisions, some don’t, it’s always been that way. I don’t judge, but my circumstances were just like that: 15 years old is the ideal age. Well, okay, up to 17-18 plus or minus.

Can a 15 year old child be ready for the Olympics? Let’s remember Julia Lipnitskaya, American Tara Lipinski – she also won the Olympic Games at the age of 15. Kamila Valieva performed brilliantly in the team event. Already another psychological factor affected her in the individual competitions, we will not touch on this topic.

Situations vary, but a 15-year-old child can be ready if they are supported by a competent team. If you work on the mentality, then everything will be in order. The main thing is to be very careful about the condition of the athlete.
