Daniel Grassl: I’m so happy to be at Worlds; I love competing in Japan, even though it’s a fight with jet lag every time because of the time difference, haha. We flew from Moscow with a connection flight in Abu Dhabi, and last night I only slept for three hours. This is my third World Championship, but this season, of course, is harder for me than others.
After the European Championship, it was not easy for me; to be honest, I felt that I was in a pit. But I tried to focus on my feelings and decided to be alone with myself. I was greatly supported by my coaches, friends, and fans; it is simply priceless.
I even doubted whether I should go to the World Championships, but so many people believe in me. So I tried to collect myself mentally, and here I am. I am slowly getting back into shape. I believe that the performance in Saitama will give me even more strength.
After the European Championships, we worked on programs in general and on technique, especially on the edge on the lutz and flip. Much attention was paid to presentation and artistry. You may not see any major changes right away, but we are working with an eye on the next season.
Goal for the World Championships? To enjoy it and skate clean.
