Tatiana Tarasova: “If we have the opportunity to host the World Championships in Russia, we will host it brilliantly! No one holds championships better than us!”
At the end of December, the Swedish Figure Skating Federation announced the cancellation of all national competitions until the end of the year due to the pandemic. After that, a number of famous Russian coaches and officials announced that the competitions could be held in Russia.
Tatiana Tarasova: If we have the opportunity to host the World Championships, we will host it brilliantly! Because no one holds championships better than us!
Alexander Zhulin: For sure it wouldn’t hurt if we host this championships. Such competitions will be held in our country decently. As a person, given the coronavirus situation, I think that we shouldn’t host it, but as a professional I dream that the competitions will take place and it doesn’t even matter in which country.
Ilia Averbukh: The World Championship is the most important competition, and we all really expect that measures will be taken that will help holding this event this year.
As for the possible transfer of the Worlds to Russia, we are always ready to host competitions in our country and do it at a high level. However, we must look at our epidemiological situation, calculate all the risks and make a decision. Now the whole world is in a difficult situation, so everything is not clear yet. I think we should wait till January 28, because so far all assumptions are wasting of breath. And then we’ll see.
President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation Alexander Gorshkov: It seems to me that, on January 28, ISU will make a decision on whether to host or cancel the World Championships in Sweden. They will explore all possible options. But this should be coordinated with the federation of the country. Is Russia ready to host the World Figure Skating Championships? You need to be realistic, you also need to take into account the CAS decisions.
Vice-President of the ISU Alexander Lakernik: Russia, of course, would have coped with this task. But, unfortunately, this is legally impossible due to the recent decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
