Russian Skating Federation announced new team competitions with Zagitova and Medvedeva as team’s captains

The Russian Figure Skating Federation and Channel One are presenting a team event with participation of all the stars of Russian figure skating, which will take place from February 5 to 7 in Moscow. The wo teams take part in the competitions. Team captains – Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Medvedeva. The prize fund of the tournament is 10 million rubles (136200 USD – approximately).

The competitions will be held in the presence of spectators and will be broadcast live on Channel One. Participants from all disciplines will perform in short and free programs. The best team will be determined by the total score. Judging will be carried out according to the current ISU system. In addition to the sporting result, the teams will compete for the “Audience Choice Award”. Spectator voting will be held live on Channel One. In addition, for the first time in the history of such competitions, a separate jumping competition will be held.

The teams will be formed as a result of the draw, which will be broadcast live on the resources of the Channel One. Under the leadership of the captain, each team will choose a name for the team and prepare a team number for their fans.

Athletes who took 1-6 places at the Russian Nationals 2021, European champions 2020, world champions are invited to participate.

Alina Zagitova: It is a great honor for me to become the team captain in such a competitions. I am sure that the performances at the “Channel One Cup” will bring joy to the audience, and will become a new opportunity for the athletes to demonstrate their arsenal of talents and abilities.

Evgenia Medvedeva: Figure skating is a very individual sport. The more interesting is the format of the competitions, where the team success is more important than their own. Rather, every personal victory becomes part of a common achievement.
