Nikita Katsalapov: Kamila is a very strong athlete, she is a very strong girl. It worth a lot to endure all this under such pressure. Now not everything work out, she is 15 years old, everything is ahead – a bright future. We all see it, we all see how she skates and what she can do. I personally wish her the best, to endure and to withstand. Now after the Olympic Games she will be much stronger.

Do you think it happened purely because of psychology?

Nikita Katsalapov: I’m sure it’s purely psychological. We all saw how she skated at the Russian and European Championships. This person did the maximum for pleasure and skated flawlessly. 15 years, I think, such a heat, all the situation that happened around is hard to endure. She skated with dignity, despite all the mistakes, she did everything, with mistakes, but she did it, she fought to the last. I think everything will be fine.

Katsalapov also noted that Alexandra Trusova made a historical performance, and he is also happy for the winner Anna Shcherbakova.

Nikita Katsalapov: Sasha made a historical performance, super complex content. I’m insanely happy. Even in the short program, Vika and I noted how much she improved in skating, which, probably, many expected from her. It was very cool, we are very happy for Sasha and for Anechka, who probably delivered the performance of her life today. Our girls are super, we are proud of them. They are huge motivators for the whole world, not only for our Russian fans. I can say one more thing, this is only for our Russian fans, I saw with my own eyes how American fans left the stands after the penultimate warm-up.

Do you mean delegation?

Nikita Katsalapov: Fans, athletes left. Because no one can, they are all afraid of us. We have a very strong team.

What can you say to Trusova’s fans who will ask: “Why is Sasha without gold”?

Nikita Katsalapov: I don’t know what to tell them, because Sasha skated super well. Everything has its time. We are not the judges here. The judges sit there, so they know better some small mistakes, some pluses. Apparently something was missing. But the girls skated brilliantly.

Remembered the case of Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan? Speaking of attitudes !

Nikita, little boy, they left out of protest because there was an athlete who doped and was allowed to compete. What foolish statements you made! Not shocking considering what you did to your former partner Elena Ilinykh. Just retire already, you do not contribute positively to the sport. Politics got you to the silver medal.

In case you happen to be a Russian Figure Skating fan sitting at home, watching the Olympics on TV, and maybe you don’t search the Internet for unbiased reports, and you just believe what someone like Nikita Katsalapov tells you:
Hi. I’m watching from Europe. I’m not American. But still, I’m aware of a fun fact about “American fans”…
Only athletes and part of national Olympic teams were allowed in the stadium, as well as some Chinese fans. Chinese only. There were no “American fans”.
So yet again, this whole over-the-top propaganda attempt is directed at you. They hope you “just believe whatever they tell you”… They seem fine to show those of you who already know there were no “American fans” in the stadium that they are, indeed, lying. Think about that for a second. He’s a gold medalist at Olympics (2014 Team). And yet, the concept of truth seems foreign to him. It’s sad.

Re the headline. Russians are so ungracious in victories and ungracious in losses. Snarky and boastful in both circumstances, all the time. (Americans are ungracious in victories but at least they are gracious in losses.) It’s why the rest of the world hates seeing Russians or Americans win things — it’s all about your attitudes.
