“Neither Russian skaters nor Eteri Tutberidze will emigrate and change sports citizenship” Russian functionaries
The head of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR), Alexander Gorshkov, assured that not a single member of the Russian figure skating team would change sports citizenship due the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) to ban Russian athletes from competitions under its auspices.
Alexander Gorshkov: I don’t think that any of the members of the Russian figure skating team will change sports citizenship due to the current situation in the world. Of course, no one expressed such a desire.
In addition, for our part, we will do everything possible to protect our athletes and coaches and help them to solve their main problems.
President of “Sambo-70” Renat Laishev also spoke about the possible departure of figure skating coach Eteri Tutberidze from Russia.
Renat Laishev: Can Eteri Georgievna emigrate to the USA? No, I believe in her. Tutberidze is our woman. It is impossible to imagine such an option.
General Director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Alexander Kogan also said that the chances of Russian skaters to compete at the World Junior Championships in Tallinn are extremely low.
Today ISU announced the transfer of the competitions from Bulgaria to Estonia, the competition will be held April 13-17.
On March 1, the ISU suspended Russia and Belarus from all international competitions under its auspices.
Alexander Kogan: Honestly, I would also really like this (the participation of Russian figure skaters in the Junior World Championships), but questions should be asked to the International Skating Union.
So far, as you can see, no new statement has appeared. We are fighting so that they can go, but the chances are extremely low.
