Italian dance duo Charlene Guignard / Marco Fabbri came second at the 2023 Worlds in Saitama, Japan.
Marco Fabbri: Now we feel great relief. This medal means so much to us—it is a reward for so many years of work and for all our ups and downs. To be honest, we came to the World Championships with the hope of taking a medal, and bronze was the ultimate dream. The fact that we came in second is just a shock.
In the free program, I made a small mistake on twizzles, and it immediately flashed through my head: That’s it, our medal is gone. But I tried to focus on the performance and give everything I could. Therefore, when we saw the scores, I could not believe that we had such a result at the World Championships. And I still can’t believe it. I look at the medal, and I don’t believe it.
Probably our coach, Barbara Fusar-Poli, believed in us more than we believed in ourselves. This is a medal for her, she has been waiting for it for so long.
We have not yet decided whether to stay in sports. Probably, if we fantasize, then if we had won gold, we would have definitely retired. But now… We don’t know. But we’re already listening to the music of the 80s (the theme for next year’s rhythm dance, Sports.ru) just in case, haha.
