Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships 2017 review
I missed competitions so much! So I can’t wait to discuss first impression from new dances.
First, I want to remind that “let’s be positive because guys tried their best” it’s not my approach. If you’re looking for positive comments only, you chose the wrong place)
Unfortunately, I don’t have patience enough to discuss everyone. Only most memorable performances.
Thanks diodio0013plus for the video!
Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko
Well, that was bad. Especially her footwork during pattern sections. Hard to say something more(
I’m not sure who inspired them. Virtue/Moir, Papadakis/Cizeron or both. Christina’s dress reminds me of Madison Hubbell’s dress which I’d gladly forget) But “wings” look lovely on Christina.
The free dance is very promising. I mean, yes, there’s nothing new, but this style worked perfectly for them last season and suit them. Over the season it should turn into lovely, solid dance. So, please do something with the SD.
Lorraine McNamara and Quinn Carpenter
Lorraine not the most dancing girl…..but at least they had speed and looked confident. Ah, guess I should learn not to pay attention to weird music cuts. Her position in the lift remind me of Tessa Virtue) And they look quite well prepared considering that it’s early August.
Also thank you Larraine for the green dress! A bit strange….but green)
Let’s start with positive moments: speed, confidence, ice coverage, energy, nice dress. Not that positive moments: Quinn tries his best, but he hasn’t enough lines for two. Sorry but tango requires nice lines and passion/energy can’t compensate their absence. Again hello lift by Tessa Virtue. Also I would like to see more Quinn in this dance. He’s a very good partner, he deserves to lead, not be hide on the background.
Rachel Parsons and Michael Parsons
Softness of their skating, pattern, unison….just WOW. Even fall don’t spoil the impression. But they need to do think of a better dress for Rachel. They need to make her look smaller……and this dress isn’t the best idea.
This dance look interesting, lots of small choreo things in the style of the program and music. I like how the dance gain the momentum, increases the speed, become more emotional. Hope they will be able to show that. Unfortunately, lifts are not their strong side, but I like the idea and their soft skating. At the moment this dance was the only one that intrigued me. I also hope for the best costumes.
Elliana Pogrebinsky and Alex Benoit
This team definitely need a better choreographer. Weird music cuts, some transitions came from their last season’s FP and even I can noticed that. I guess best part was the step sequence.
Again, has their choreographer even tried to think of something more interesting, more sophisticated? I really don’t understand. They are beautiful team: tall, with nice long lines and some beautiful elements. Why they have a dance that any team from the first warm-ups could skate to. I mean, ok but not memorable at all. Come on, this two deserve more!
One of the best impressions was young team Caroline GREEN/Gordon GREEN
Lovely dances, good speed, good lines and already a great readiness! I’m impressed.
I also want to say “thank you” to those who choose latina for Olympic season……I’m already terrified)
