Ksenia Stolbova: We didn’t make any decisions about retirement

Posted on 2018-02-13 • 9 comments

Yesterday Nina Mozer told in interview that World Championships 2018 is going to be the last competition for Stolbova / Klimov in their career.

Of course Maxim Trankov being Fedor’s friend, Fedor also is a godfather of Maxim’s daughter Angelica, couldn’t pass by this announcement and also said couple of words:

The fact that Ksenia didn’t get an invitation to the Games did not affect this decision any way, it was decided before January 23. The thing is that the Olympics in Pyeongchang was their last and main goal in big sport, and they have been going to it for a long time, through injuries, through all the ups and downs that happened to them in the last four years. There’s a real drama in all this.

It is difficult to look for advantages in this whole situation, but every cloud has a silver lining. Now the guys will have time to properly prepare, to fix the mistakes that followed them throughout the season. Because of the injuries they did not have enough time. If they return to their shape in which they won medals, they will have very good chances at the World Championships. They just need to reconsider everything correctly. – Maxim said.

But first Fedor Klimov told that he didn’t make any deсiіions about finishing of the career. Then Ksenia also made a pretty harsh comment:

Since Monday we are preparing for the World Championships, we did not make any decisions about retirement, and there were no conversations on this topic. But it’s better to ask (Maxim) Trankov about this, he knows better about our plans.

I can’t say I’m surprised about this if it is true. Injury after injury, not to mention Russia is pushing Zabiiako/Enbert into the no. 2 spot. Since 2016 Worlds, I have been preparing myself for the possibility that this could happen, and as long as they’re happy, I guess I can be okay with it. No matter what, I’ll never forget the emotions they gave me in Sochi <3

Honestly, I hear this for the first time) The Fed. isn’t stupid but after Ksenia didn’t receive the invitation to Olympics, what else they could do? They needed a second pair for the team event.

      • Mad for Skating says:

I do understand that Russia needed a second team and had no choice, but I just get so frustrated thinking about boring Zabiiako and Enbert. I think I’m just bitter Ksenia wasn’t invited. The same way I got angry watching Bradie Tennell and Karen Chen, even though it’s not really their fault Ashley isn’t at the Olympics.

I hope Fedor find a less troubled partner. He is the opposite of drama queen Ksenia. They are wonderful on ice but he deserves a better partner. He is losing so many opportunities.

    • Mad for Skating says:

I don’t think she causes drama on purpose. She’s just more emotional. We can’t all be Vulcans.

  3. Gulnaz says:

I also hope they will not retire and will do better because they are one of the best teams, it will be so sad if such a graceful team will not achieve even a part of their dreams.

I hope they didn’t make any decisions about retirement. They are mature and classy and joyful to watch. As for pair skating they are even on the young side and it’s just to early for their retirement. When they overcome the injuries that plagued them they can win a lot.
Still, I don’t understand why Ksenia wasn’t invited to the OG. I’m for clean sport, but there is no proof, no evidence and she has never failed a doping test. Nowadays it’s easy to ruin something by rumours.

    • FS Gossips says:

I hope they’ll reconsider their decision after Worlds. You can’t make such a decision on emotions. But, I guess the main thing that will affect their decision is health. Too many injuries(
