Kaori Sakamoto: “Since there are no Russian skaters here, they suddenly began to consider me a contender for a gold medal.”
The bronze medalist of the 2022 Olympic Games, Japanese figure skater Kaori Sakamoto, commented on her performance in the short program at the World Championships in Montpellier. Sakamoto leads after the short program.
Kaori Sakamoto: Since there are no Russian skaters here, they suddenly began to consider me a contender for a gold medal. At first I was not in the best shape and it was difficult for me to force myself, but after a few days my motivation rose. It’s not about the result, it’s just the last time I skate these two programs, so I wanted to show my best. This is the theme of my season. I am 100% satisfied.
I skated at high speed. The jumps were not very high quality, but still I was able to perform them, so everything is fine. Usually I perform poorly at the world championships, so I want to finish both the short program and the free program with a perfect skating. The past three weeks wasn’t great, but at the World Championships we need to win three spots for next year.
