Head of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKR) Alexander Gorshkov: We have no right to publish the diagnosis. Kostornaia’s chances for the Olympics if she skips the Nationals? The news about Alena’s injury has just come, so I can’t say anything yet.”

General Director of the FFKR Alexander Kogan: Of course, I won’t tell you what kind of injury, because an injury is an injury.

For how long? While she was limited in training and loads as standard – for 20 days.

Tatiana Tarasova: It’s a pity! Will the Russian Nationals lose a lot because of her absence? No, I won’t say that. Just a pity.

Ilia Averbukh: Of course, I would like to sympathize Alena and say words of support to her. This is a very big test for her and her sports career. Unfortunately, none of the athletes is immune from such a stories. The Russian Nationals is practically the culmination of the season.

Now they will probably start talking about the imminent end of her career.

Ilia Averbukh: Alena is still very young, and she definitely shouldn’t give up. She is a real talent. This year she had good performances, she showed decent results. It remains to wish her good luck and desire to fight.

Does her withdrawal add some reasons in favor of holding test skates after the European Championships?

Ilia Averbukh: I don’t see any logic in the test skates in this regard. By the end of the first half of the season, our main favorites to get to the Olympics are objectively Valieva, Shcherbakova, Trusova, Tuktamysheva. Alena, after all, was not included in this four, judging by the results at the Grand Prix. What is there to talk about?

Alexander Zhulin: It is a pity that Alena Kostornaia will have to miss the Russian Nationals due to injury.

Will this affect the preparation for the Olympics? So far, everything is very bad for Alena. I think that any additional selection and exception in the form of test skates is impossible.

I don’t want to associate the injuries of Tutberidze’s skaters with each other and look for some kind of tendency. A series of injuries in “Khrustalny” is, rather, a will of chance.

Averbukh is the only one who shows some humane side and expresses support to Alena. All the others interviewed, alas, pure business, so cold.
