Evgenia Medvedeva shared her experience of facing criticism in Japan during the covid pandemic. Here’s translation of her comment from the interview posted on Lenta.ru.
“Q: In one of your interviews, you mentioned that if you were offered to live outside of Russia, you would choose a beautiful European city, like Vienna, but for a month or two maximum. However, you are very popular in Japan, and from your words, you’ve been there more than 15 times. How about spending a longer period of time there?”
Evgenia Medvedeva: In Asia, it’s great, convenient, and comfortable. You have everything you could want – nature, big cities, and all of it at a very advanced level.
But I had an experience when I got stuck in Japan for three months during the pandemic. It was then that I felt people’s anger. They said, ‘Oh, a foreigner came to us and brought the coronavirus.’ They even watched me, saying, ‘Look, she went to the store, stay away from her.’
It was also tough without our food. Sushi, sashimi, ramen – it’s all very tasty, but after three months, we went to some highland market to cook borscht for ourselves. So, I couldn’t live in Asia permanently.
I visited Vienna, and I could live there for an extended period. I also really liked Paris,” said the two-time world champion in figure skating.
