Evgeni Plushenko: We cannot infringe the rights of women, ISU should allow quads in the short program
Evgeni Plushenko about quads in ladies’ short program.
Evgeni Plushenko: The ISU should definitely allow quadruple jumps in the short program. If men can jump quads, why can’t women? These are unequal conditions, especially in our time. I urge you to consider that quadruple jumps be included in ladies’ short programs.
Ladies’ single skating cannot be stopped, it must be moved forward. We must keep pace with the times, we cannot follow the path of simplification. At one time, we raised the bar, moved figure skating forward, including quadruple jumps, when we were told “Why do we need quds?” Although, of course, you need to have high quality spins, glide quickly, make loops, twizzles, brackets, nobody cancels this.
Plushenko called the ban on the quads in ladies’ short program stupid. “I understand why this is being done, but it’s still a sport. Then it’s art, but first of all it’s a sport. And you cannot infringe the rights of women, and they will support me in this, I’m sure.”
