Ekaterina Kurakova: Sometimes I thought: “I skate, but where are the higher scores? And then I ask myself – do I enjoy the scores or what I do?” Of course, the second.”
Ekaterina Kurakova about her impressions of the European Championships 2022 where she took the fifth place.
Ekaterina Kurakova: Great experience, thanks everyone! It was so nice to skate, I’m just happy that I’m here. It probably helped me a lot – I woke up without being nervous, thinking: “Damn, the situation in the world is so difficult, it’s so great that we are holding these competitions!” Covid is everywhere, you don’t know what will happen tomorrow, maybe we will all die. Well, figuratively speaking. (laughs) I hope everything will be fine in our life!
In the short program, you did everything cleanly, but lost to Anna Shcherbakova with a fall. Wasn’t you surprised?
Ekaterina Kurakova: I did not watch the performances of other girls. I do my own job. When I think about points, it really bothers me. Sometimes I thought: “Well, how can that be? I skate, but where are the higher scores? And then I ask myself – do I enjoy the scores or what I do? Of course, the second. If I did all this just for scores, I would finish and start skating for another country. For me figure skating is the meaning of my life now, and I like what I do.
How is it feels to skate in the same warm-up with Valieva, Shcherbakova, Trusova?
Ekaterina Kurakova: I stepped on the ice and was like: “How cool I am!” Excuse my indiscretion. I got into the first pose – I need to show it! So I tried to show here. (laughs)
