Figure skater Diana Davis on her debut for the Georgian national team at a competition in the USA.
Davis competes in ice dance with Gleb Smolkin. Today, they won the Ice Dance International in Lake Placid with a score of 191.82 points – their first competition since switching from Russia to Georgia.
“We are satisfied with our debut; there was a long break, and we needed to start performing somewhere. Lake Placid turned out to be a suitable competition.
We are glad that we managed to win and start the season successfully under the Georgian flag.”
Tatiana Tarasova: Much depends on the level of competition. Nevertheless, they won.
I congratulate them. They will still prove themselves. They are a wonderful pair.
Ilia Averbukh: I congratulate the guys; the main thing is that they continue their careers, perform. It’s quite challenging to judge based on the August tournaments, but the fact that they are still skating and performing is commendable.
We need to see how everything unfolds. The pair was in the top ranks, performed wonderfully at the Olympic Games, and they were already part of the elite of European figure skating. Of course, they will be fighting for top positions.
Alexei Zheleznyakov (choreographer of Eteri Tutberidze’s group): As a choreographer, I couldn’t assess their performance because I didn’t watch it, but I heard, of course, that they took first place in this competition.
I sincerely congratulate them and wish them further success! They are our kids, ours. Dear and beloved!
The result is fantastic, and I am very happy for them. If they achieved first place, it means they are moving in the right direction.
