Daria Usacheva may switch to ice dance. “Apparently, the injury was too serious, and she understands that she won’t return to quads.” thinks Zhulin
Daria Usacheva may switch to ice dance. Ice dance coach Alexandr Zhulin commented on the news.
It is reported by R-Sport, citing a source close to the situation.
Some time ago, Usacheva had a try-out with Dario Cirisano at a training camp in the United Arab Emirates, but the skaters did not fit each other for a number of reasons, one of which is height parameters. For the same reason, switching to a new discipline is also complicated for Daria. In Russia, there are not enough partners suitable for her in terms of anthropometry.
The athlete continues to work in the group of Eteri Tutberidze, while simultaneously looking for a suitable partner and ice dance school.
Usacheva is 16 years old, she is the silver medalist of the 2020 World Junior Championships in women’s singles. In November 2021, the figure skater was injured and has not competed since.
Alexander Zhulin commented on the possible transition of Daria Usacheva to ice dance.
Alexander Zhulin: It is difficult to say how successful a possible transition to another type of figure skating is. I never thought about it. Daria did not ask me for advice.
To talk about her prospects, it’s necessary to look at the work of the knees, gliding. It doesn’t always happen that a very good skater can become a good ice dancer. Do you think it’s easy to switch? These are completely different directions, although it is called figure skating.
Always a single skater will need at least a year or two to learn ice dance. It is important to find a good partner and it’s not that easy!
Why did the desire appear? Apparently, the injury was too serious, and she understands that she will not return to the quads. And without this, Usacheva will not be able to compete at that level. That’s why, I think, it’s ice dance and not pairs.
