“I was very nervous. At the last Four Continents Championships, I made a mistake and missed the podium, so this time I wanted to perform clean without any regrets. Although it wasn’t a clean performance, I’m still very happy to be on the podium,” said Chaeyeon about winning silver at the 2024 Four Continents Championships.
“I’ve been quite disappointed with the results this season due to nervousness. I’ve thought a lot about how to get less nervous… Just before going in, the coaches reminded me to stay focused, which helped me pull myself together a bit. I also had a slight back injury before coming here, so it was tough. My back still isn’t great, so I had to omit the layback spin. And I’ve been making continuous mistakes on salchow here, so I felt a bit uneasy during the competition,’ she said.
“I think this season I couldn’t practice as much as last season, probably because of the injuries. I’ve been dealing with injuries continuously, but last season, I tried to focus and do what I could before entering the competition. It didn’t work out as well this season. So, I found myself thinking more about my jump technique just before skating, and even before entering the competition, I tried to say to myself, ‘I can do it’ more often,” she added.
Regarding World Championships, she expressed her aspirations, saying, “I hope to heal from my injuries and work harder so that I can perform clean at the World Championships.”
