Anna Shcherbakova: My short program is about the loss of a loved one
Anna Shcherbakova commented on her performance at the Russian test skates 2020.
‘Nothing depends on me, I left everything as it is, nothing has changed in the training process. I don’t want to think a lot and distract from the process.’ Shcherbakova said after her performance.
About short program
Anna Shcherbakova: It is very unusual to plunge into this atmosphere, so much emotions. There was a bit anxiety from not understanding what was happening. Only after getting into the starting position, I got used. I did all the elements, but I could have done some elements better. My short program is about the loss of a loved one, and everyone should feel something different in this program.
Black dress is a training version for test skates. Then there will be another dress. I understand that the shape is far from ideal. But I looked with such joy at the stands, posters, the audience clapping.
About competitions
Anna Shcherbakova: I still regret that the World Championship did not take place. I would madly want the European and World Championships to take place this year. But there are such problems in the world that it would be selfish to think about our problems.
About free program
Anna Shcherbakova: Falls happen, especially at the beginning of the season. I cannot say that I am completely satisfied, but there is satisfaction. In the morning, the training was not the best, but I was able to get together for the warm-up.
It was a good attempt, this jump (quad lutz) is already possible to land, I would like everything to be good at once, but it doesn’t happen like that.
There were no thoughts about withdrawing, but I was afraid to show the performance, which I would like to leave in training. But it is very important to try yourself at the start. The sooner I start, the faster the progress will be. I have a starting point from which to move on.
Dresses for the programs are in progress, they will be in Syzran. I keep even my children’s dresses, I won’t give them to anyone – for me this is a memory.

About quad jumps
Anna Shcherbakova: I don’t plan to stop on one quadruple.
I haven’t succeeded in jumping more than one in the complete run-through yet. But outside the program, I jump both lutz and flip, but so far they are not ready enough to put several quads into the program.
The programs were choreographed for quadruple jumps, and as soon as I am ready for two, there will be two, three means three, we went through all this in past years.

I liked both Anna’s programs the most. She is delicate, very expressive as for the emotions and interprets the music the way it should be done. Anna (together with Kamila) visibly grew during the summer and the “covid break”, which may have affected her jumps, but overally if I recall her last year’s tests skates, I wouldn’t say she’s on worse level of the preparation than she was that time. So, I presume with proper training Anna will be as strong as she was last season, and more mature. Just be safe and free from injury, Anna.
I also like Anna’s performance in the free program the most. I think that was most refine performance.
