On October 23, the premiere of the Dracula ice show with your participation took place. In September, you had surgery on your hip. Did it interfere with the preparation for the show? Did you recover from the surgery before putting your skates back on? Were there any fears that physical activity would interfere with recovery?

Alena Kostornaia: Yes, of course, this affected the preparation. I had very little time, just a couple of days. During this time, there was a lot to learn – pair elements and lifts. It was not easy, but very exciting, and I like to learn something new.

Naturally, I could not work at full strength and now I still can not. I’m just getting closer to the moment when I can do everything with the highest quality and in full swing.

In the show, you played the role of Lucy, the victim of Dracula. How comfortable this character for you? And do you like horror as a genre?

Alena Kostornaia: I really love series about witches, vampires, werewolves and everything like that. Anything related to the paranormal is hard for me to watch. For example, I couldn’t watch Astral, I was very scared. I didn’t even finished it.

Looking back at all the artistic images you’ve ever shown on the ice, which ones are your favorites? Why?

Alena Kostornaia: I liked most of the artistic images that I showed on the ice, because I adhere to the motto: “Either do it well, or don’t do it at all.” Naturally, in order to do well, I must like what I do.

In the summer you took part in Evgeni Plushenko’s show “Union of Champions”, during which you performed to the accompaniment of Dima Bilan. What emotions did you experience at that moment? Would you like to work again under the guidance of Evgeni or maybe try yourself in Tatiana Navka’s show?

Alena Kostornaia: I worked with them, I really like it, it’s very comfortable. I hope it’s mutual.

In general, I am always open to new collaborations. But preference will always be given to Evgeni Plushenko.

Channel One shows the “Ice Age”, where professional athletes and movie / show business stars take part. In particular, Zhenya Medvedeva skates in with Danya Milokhin. Would you like to try yourself in this project?

Alena Kostornaia: As for the Ice Age, the idea is tempting, but I will refuse anyway. Since I am an experienced athlete, most likely the partner will be inexperienced. This is the risk of injury. I don’t want to put my health at unnecessary risk. I have enough risk in my life. Maybe, as a host – yes. As a participant, no.

You trained with Eteri Tutberidze, Evgeni Plushenko and Elena Buyanova. How fundamentally different are their approaches?

Alena Kostornaia: Yes, indeed, the approaches are very different. But without the desire of the athlete himself, nothing will work out.

Would you like to coach children yourself?

Alena Kostornaia: No, I don’t want to do it yet.

Did you follow the Russian Grand Prix? Who were you rooting for?

Alena Kostornaia: At the Grand Prix, I only followed the boys and ice dancers, because in other dysciplines it was quite simple and obvious. I am very happy for Dima Aliev.

By the way, which of the Russian figure skaters do you consider the most promising? Maybe you have idols abroad?

Alena Kostornaia: My idols are Carolina Kostner and Alena Savchenko. Two people I absolutely adore, I often watch their programs and get inspired by them.

In addition to figure skating, you are fond of horse riding. What else helps you to distract, relax, cope with stress and worries? What lifts your spirits?

Alena Kostornaia: Horseback riding helps relieve stress, but, of course, I cannot do without my friends and people close to me.

How much sports are in your life today?

Alena Kostornaia: I am working now a full training day, but I don’t do it as well as I could do it if there were no injuries and surgeries. It’s a full training day but I can’t do half of the elements. Hope it will change soon.

What does a champion eat? Do you follow strict diets to keep fit? Do you limit yourself or eat whatever you want?

Alena Kostornaia: I do not eat four hours before a workout and two hours after. Basically it’s six hours plus ice. It turns out that I eat two or three times a day like a normal person. If I want something, I’ll eat it. I will not keep myself in rigid limits and limit myself, because restrictions lead to breakdowns, and no one needs this.
