“Only now do I understand what actually happened. That my actions don’t fit into the concept of ‘normal'” Alina Gorbachyova recorded several video messages about her search in Moscow
Figure skater Alina Gorbachyova recorded several video messages about her search in Moscow.
The 16-year-old Gorbachyova is the junior champion of Russia. On August 28, the skater went missing in Moscow, and the police found her the next day in one of the city’s movie theaters.
“It’s very difficult for me to record this video and it’s hard to talk about this situation, but I sincerely want to thank everyone who was concerned and participated in searching for me. Thank you to the rescuers, search teams, volunteers, and divers.
Thanks to my fellow figure skaters and fans. And of course, a big thank you to my family and loved ones. I’m sorry for making you worry.
Only now do I understand what actually happened. That my actions don’t fit into the concept of ‘normal’. While I was going through my own emotions, trying to understand myself, my thoughts, and my feelings, all of you were spending your time and energy searching for me.
Thank you so much for your love,” Gorbachyova said.
In anpther video Alina Gorbachyova has revealed that she feels ashamed for running away from practice.
“Good morning! Right now, I’m headed to practice. There are a lot of different thoughts in my head. First and foremost, I want to thank those who support me.
I also want to address those who are trying to find ulterior motives and falsehoods in every word I say. I’m truly ashamed of my actions. Yesterday’s video was very necessary for me to speak out, so that after it, I would feel much lighter.
I’ll be making more videos now to show you my preparation for the test skates and to distract myself from the situation,” Gorbachyova shared in her video message.
According to Mash, the athlete almost immediately voiced the reason for her escape: she was simply exhausted. And with her actions, she wanted to “express protest.” She was overloaded by the intensified training regimen — six times a week for 1.5 hours on the ice, plus gym workouts, physical trainings, choreography, and dancing. The weight of responsibility after winning the junior championship and being selected for the Russian national team also added to her burden. But she started the new season with an injury, which also took a toll on her mental state.
For the past eight years, Alina had been living with her coach, which meant that all conversations at home revolved around figure skating and the need to be the best. Alina couldn’t distract herself, meet with friends, or have fun. Her mother lives in a different city. That’s why she decided to run away. She spent the night of August 28-29 in the hallway, went to a café twice during the day, bought some snacks, and went to the cinema. She didn’t plan to hide for long, and after being found, she wrote a post that everything is fine, she’s with her “beloved” coach and mother.
